Empowering women in East Lombok:
Sustainable salt and skincare collaboration
IWANI joins forces with Himaspi Dende Ringgit and BP2MI to empower local women through sustainable salt and skincare innovation
In the heart of East Lombok, where shimmering salt fields meet the turquoise sea, a group of women is redefining what empowerment looks like. Their story is one of strength, creativity, and transformation. IWANI is proud to be part of their journey.
Together with Himaspi Dende Ringgit and BP2MI, we’ve launched a community
initiative to help women salt producers turn their traditional craft into sustainable beauty products.
This collaboration represents our shared belief that true progress starts with opportunity, knowledge, and purpose.
Transforming salt into sustainable beauty
For generations, women in East Lombok have produced salt using age-old methods passed down through families. While this tradition is rich in culture, it often limits market potential and income.
To change that, IWANI designed a training program focused on transforming raw salt into value-added skincare products, like bath salts and exfoliating scrubs. These workshops opened doors to new income opportunities and connected the women to a growing market for natural, sustainable beauty.
Salt, once a symbol of labor, became a foundation for creativity, independence, and environmental care.
Hands-On learning for long-term impact
Our workshops were practical, interactive, and community-led. Together, we explored both business and craftsmanship— empowering participants with skills to sustain their success.
The women learned to:
- Select and refine high-quality local salt;
- Infuse essential oils for soothing, therapeutic bath salts;
- Blend natural exfoliants into salt scrubs;
- Package products attractively to meet modern market expectations.
Beyond technical skills, the most powerful outcome was confidence, the belief that they could build something lasting from their own land and hands.

Collaboration with local partners
The success of this project depended on strong partnerships.
- Himaspi Dende Ringgit provided local knowledge, guidance, and cultural insight;
- BP2MI supported logistics and ensured that training aligned with community
needs; - IWANI contributed expertise in sustainable skincare formulation and ethical
business development.
Together, we bridged the gap between traditional craftsmanship and modern
entrepreneurship, ensuring that innovation never comes at the cost of identity.
Why sustainable salt and skincare?
At IWANI, sustainability is more than a value, it’s our foundation. By supporting these women, we’re creating a circular model that benefits both people and the planet.
- The ingredients are locally sourced and eco-friendly;
- The products are plastic-minimal and biodegradable;
- The process reduces waste and supports ethical production.
It’s a natural evolution of our mission: to create skincare that honors the earth while empowering the hands that craft it.
Creating a ripple effect
The results go far beyond individual income. Each trained woman becomes a role model, a catalyst for her family and community.
By building skills, these women are building futures. They’re showing that sustainability is not just about preserving nature, it’s about unlocking human potential.
This ripple effect strengthens East Lombok’s local economy and inspires new generations to follow with pride and purpose.
Join us in supporting local empowerment
This initiative in East Lombok is one of many ways IWANI continues to connect nature, community, and craftsmanship.
