IWANI & Relawan Saling Jaga for a Greener Lombok

Planting hope, restoring forests, and nurturing life, one tree at a time

In Dusun Bun Beleng, West Lombok, the air was filled with purpose as volunteers from Relawan Saling Jaga Indonesia, joined by the team from IWANI, came together for an inspiring Planting Hope initiative. Their goal: to combat deforestation, restore water abundance, and build a sustainable future for the community through tree planting.

For IWANI, this project wasn’t just about trees, it was about planting hope in the soil and in people’s hearts.

Planting hope in a village that needed it most

Like many rural areas in Indonesia, Dusun Bun Beleng has faced the devastating effects of deforestation. Once-green hillsides have been stripped bare, leading to erosion, water shortages, and declining soil fertility.

Through this Planting Hope project, volunteers sought to reverse that damage, one sapling at a time.

From seeds to sustainability

Armed with shovels and shared determination, the volunteers planted 1,250 trees across the hills. Each sapling represented a commitment to reforest Lombok’s hills, restore water sources, and revive the ecosystem. “By planting trees, we can help mitigate the effects of deforestation and ensure that Dusun Bun Beleng has a sustainable future,” said Kak Issya, team leader of Relawan Saling Jaga Indonesia. “These trees will not only prevent soil erosion but also provide a vital source of water for the community.” The act of planting was more than physical labor, it was an act of faith in regeneration, a tangible way of planting hope for generations to come.
