Celebrating Independence with purpose:
A day of freedom and responsibility

A living connection between nature, people, and purpose

For IWANI, sustainability is more than a principle, it’s a daily practice. This August 17th, Indonesia’s Independence Day, we celebrated freedom in the most meaningful way: by giving back to nature. Together with the Indonesia Biru Foundation (IBF), we organized a full day of environmental action, combining community spirit, cultural pride, and our shared love for the ocean that surrounds our island home.

Flag ceremony

The day started with the Independence Day flag ceremony, held right on the beach. As the red and white flag rose into the clear Lombok sky, our team and the IBF volunteers stood in silence, reminded that love for our nation begins with care for its natural beauty.

Nostalgic Independence Day games

A short talk on marine conservation followed, inspiring everyone to think about how small actions can protect our fragile ecosystems. Then came a light-hearted moment: classic Independence Day games like sack races and the “nail-in-the-bottle” challenge, laughter, teamwork, and nostalgia blending beautifully with purpose.

Beach cleanup: protecting what protects us

Once the games ended, the real work began. Equipped with gloves and reusable bags, teams spread across the beach for a coastal cleanup. Every piece of plastic collected was a step toward cleaner oceans and a safer environment for marine life. For IWANI, this effort connects deeply with our mission in sustainable skincare, caring for skin means caring for the ecosystems that provide our natural ingredients.

Turtler: a moment of hope

The most heartwarming part of the day was watching dozens of baby turtles make their way toward the sea. Each small shell carried a big message: every act of protection, no matter how small, contributes to life’s continuity. This moment of release captured the essence of IWANI’s philosophy, to restore balance between nature and humanity through mindful action.

Mangrove planting: roots for the future

Under the guidance of IBF’s marine experts, we ended the day by planting mangrove seedlings. These coastal trees do more than beautify the landscape, they prevent erosion, support biodiversity, and absorb carbon, making them true climate heroes. Each seedling we planted was a commitment: to protect Lombok’s coastlines and nurture the natural systems that sustain us all.

Freedom with responsibility

For IWANI, freedom is not just the ability to act, it’s the choice to act responsibly. Our collaboration with IBF reflects our belief that true independence grows from connection, compassion, and care for the planet. This event was more than a celebration; it was a story of purpose, of how a local eco community in Lombok came together to make a visible, lasting difference.
